Civil Engineering: Theory and Practice

The aim of this unit is that learners will demonstrate knowledge of core civil engineering concepts, including materials science, structural analysis, and fluid mechanics, and explain how these principles are applied in real-world construction scenarios. Learners will evaluate the key stages of a civil engineering project, discussing the roles of different stakeholders and the importance of effective project management and communication throughout the lifecycle.

Learners will utilise appropriate civil engineering methods and tools to address specific challenges encountered in construction and infrastructure projects, demonstrating problem-solving skills in a practical context. Learners will critically assess the broader impacts of civil engineering projects, discussing how sustainability principles and regulatory requirements influence design, construction practices, and community engagement.

This unit will focus on understanding civil engineering principles, analysing project stages, applying techniques to solve problems, and evaluating the impacts of civil engineering projects within the context of sustainability and compliance.
